This LibGuide explains how to access Australian and overseas company information, and advice about how to search for patents.

Getting started

The State Library subscribes to a range of directories and databases that provide company information of interest to the general and business community. A selection of them are listed here. The current issues of most of the printed directories are kept in the Ready Reference collection near the Information Desk.

Due to licensing agreements, many of the resources listed in this LibGuide are only available for use onsite. However, if you are unable to come into the Library, you can submit your question to the Ask Us service. Our librarians can then provide you with useful information. The basic research service is free, although there are charges for copying.

 

Useful websites

Australia's national statistical agency, the ABS provides statistics on the performance of the economy, the well-being of the population, the    condition of the environment, and the challenges faced by regional and rural communities. Free website.

Books. magazines and microfiche available onsite

Electronic resources

The State Library has a number of electronic resources that are useful for searching business and company topics. Some of these resources can only be accessed within the library and others can also be accessed from home by becoming a Home access user
