Adelaide Hospital admission records

The early Adelaide Hospital (now Royal Adelaide Hospital) admission registers included length of time in the colony and the name of the ship a patient arrived aboard.

The original registers are held at State Records of South Australia and transcriptions can be viewed on their website.

Destitute Asylum admission registers

The Destitute Asylum admission registers are also held at State Records of South Australia.

These have also been transcribed and can be viewed online.

Deaths on board emigrant ships 1849-1867

There are no official records for most of the deaths which occurred at sea during the journey to South Australia. 

The South Australian government released a list of deaths which had occurred on board passenger ships in 1865. This was published in the South Australian Government Gazette on 25 June 1866.

A transcription of the list can be viewed on the State Records of South Australia website.

This was later updated to 1867. The State Library holds a printed copy of the updated list.
