Introduction
Law material in the State Library is predominantly aimed at non-lawyers and covers all aspects of Australian law impacting on ordinary people. Human rights issues and the United Nations are also well covered. In addition the collection contains government and parliamentary material. Complex legal research is better supported by the collections at Adelaide and Flinders Universities.
Library Catalogue
Books and other published material on legal topics can be found using the Library catalogue. A subject search is the most comprehensive approach. The subject heading - law is used in the catalogue. Specific topics, such as Family law, Business law, Environmental law, are found under those subject headings. There is also material on topics such as taxation, social security, meetings, nursing, sport or consumer protection, which all have the subdivision - law and legislation, dealing with the legal aspects of these subjects, for example nursing law and legislation.
To locate materials on the law as it affects certain groups of people, look under the name of the group, for example Women, Artists, Aborigines, Vietnamese, followed by the subdivision - legal status, laws, etc. The way in which our courts operate can be found in books under subject headings such as Courts - Australia, Criminal procedure or Justice, administration of.
