The State Library subscribes to a range of directories and databases that provide company information of interest to the general and business community. A selection of them are listed here. The current issues of most of the printed directories are kept in the Ready Reference collection near the Information Desk.
Due to licensing agreements, many of the resources listed in this guide are only available for use onsite. However, if you are unable to come into the Library, you can submit your question to the Ask Us service. Our librarians can then provide you with useful information. The basic research service is free, although there are charges for copying.
Australian Bureau of Statistics
Australia's national statistical agency, the ABS provides statistics on the performance of the economy, the well-being of the population, the condition of the environment, and the challenges faced by regional and rural communities.
Australian Securities and Investments Commission
Useful for companies that are not listed in major directories or on the Stock Exchange. All registered Australian companies, including unlisted companies are required to supply certain information to ASIC. Some basic information is free of charge. Other data can be obtained from the Information Brokers listed on the site.
Australian Stock Exchange
Free information is available on listed companies, including recent share prices. Company announcements are also accessible via this site. The FAQ section details other services including costs of obtaining fee based data.
Provides lists of deregistered, suspended, demerged and demutualised companies.
Books. magazines and microfiche available onsite

The State Library has a number of electronic resources that are useful for searching business and company topics. Some of these resources can only be accessed within the library and others can also be accessed from home by becoming a Home access user
Australian Standards online
Contains a complete collection of Australian Standards published by the Standards Association. The service also contains a selection of ISO and IEC standards. Onsite access only.
Business Source Premier
An international business research database, providing full text for a large number of journals and reports in all disciplines of business, including marketing, management, management information systems (MIS), production and operations management (POM), accounting, finance and economics. This database is updated daily. Onsite and home access.
