Archival Collection: Images

This State Library of South Australia guide to archival collections includes information on archival formats, making donations, accessing archival material and online access to selected transcripts.

Finding images in our collection

Go to the library homepage at https://www.slsa.sa.gov.au

1. Follow link to catalogue search (top left corner)

2. Go to Classic Catalogue. Using the Classic Catalogue allows you to limit your search to only images from the start

3. Enter your search term/s

4. Change ‘Search in the’ from ‘View Entire Collection’ to ‘Pictorial’. Hit search

Browse your results list

5. When you see an item of interest, follow link from the photograph title to view the full catalogue record

6. If the photograph is digital or has been digitised, you can view directly – follow link from ‘Look at it/more info’

Note that if a photograph is in copyright it may not be viewable outside of the State Library of South Australia

7. Once you have viewed a photograph, you can stay in the image viewer and use the search box to repeat your search

8. Hit the blue 'Info' button for more information about the image, including copyright information

This has the benefit that your results will be returned as thumbnail images which helps you identify photographs of interest at a glance

Note that thumbnails of in copyright images will be visible but the full-size image may not be viewable outside of the State Library of South Australia
